CORONAVIRUS MEASURES IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR
How we are continuing to ensure accurate, on-time payments
Earlier this week the Government issued guidance to public sector organisations regarding the processing of payments to staff and contractors who are unable to work due to the Coronavirus measures.
The aim of the guidance was to support public sector contingent workers and their supply chain and to reduce the administrative burden on the public sector. In effect, the guidance negates the need to officially ‘furlough’ public sector staff and contractors and means payroll can be processed for affected workers with pay limited in a similar way to furlough payments ie. payment of 80% of the contract rate up to a maximum of £2,500 per month. Contractors should check with their agency to see if their end user is applying the guidance.
No action would be required by our agency partners with regard to public sector contractors other than to notify us of the adjusted rate of pay. Payroll would then be processed in the normal way under the normal timeframes, the current process remains unchanged. Recruiters would be responsible for working with their end clients to ensure communication throughout the chain is clear and that any affected worker is aware of the adjusted rate.
Account managers are contacting all agency partners to ensure we are up-to-date with payroll requirements but if you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Here for you
We appreciate these are uncertain times for many agencies and contractors and want to play our part in reducing stress and worry. We know the best way to do that is to continue to provide high quality services and to ensure contractors continue to be paid accurately and on time.
Please be aware we have rigorous business continuity measures in place to ensure service as usual during this difficult time. We have increased capacity on our phone lines to ensure all of our clients can get in touch to get the support they need, when they need it. Most calls are answered within a few seconds, all calls are answered inside 40 seconds.
Umbrella contractors can be set up and ready to work in under 5 minutes thanks to our great technology which allows us to undertake ‘right to work’ checks and produce accurate pay illustrations in real-time. We appreciate this is particularly important to agencies who are needing a fast and efficient method of onboarding key workers such as healthcare professionals during the Coronavirus pandemic.
